About Merrick

My college search was extensive, and I am confident that I have found the right school for me at the University of Pittsburgh. As an out-of-state student, the cost of attendance is high. This $5,000 scholarship really helps make this burden a little lighter.

The significance of the award coming from an organization that supports the E-2/C-2 community means each more now. My father’s time as an E-2 pilot not only shaped him but has forever impacted me in a positive way. I was born in Japan while he was flying E-2’s in VAW-115. I lived in Pittsburgh while my father was ROTC instructor at Carnegie Mellon. My grandfather and great grandfather are veterans and their sacrifices have not been lost on me.

Their time in the service has shaped my views of the world and my complete respect and admiration for veterans. I am grateful for the opportunity this scholarship provided and to Wings Over America and the VAW/VRC Scholarship.
