Marguerite Reed

I am very Honored to be receiving a VAW/VRC Merit Scholarship this year! Throughout my life my parents have been prime examples of living a life of service and sacrifice. My mom, an educator, and my dad a Navy Pilot, showed us what it meant to serve others. They passed the importance of serving and caring for others down to my siblings and me. We grew up in an environment where both my parents worked to serve each other, us, and the community we were a part of. Growing up with such great examples of what a service-based life looks like created a desire in me to serve my community just like my parents. The Wings Over America scholarship will help me reach this goal, by helping me get my degree in secondary math education. After I get my degree, I plan on becoming a high school math teacher as well as a cross country and track coach. I will help serve my community through my career as a teacher and coach. I will have the opportunity to work and serve my future students, athletes, and their families, just like how my parents strove to serve their communities through their careers.
