Shimin Yunker

I am currently majoring in chemistry and biochemistry and minoring in mathematics, music, and psychology. I’m not sure exactly what I’ll be doing after I graduate, but it will likely be something research related. I am so incredibly honored and grateful to be a recipient of a VAW/VRC merit scholarship as my education has always been an integral part of my life. I love learning simply to learn, and if I can use that knowledge to improve the world in some way, that is even better. My family has never struggled too much financially, but college is expensive and some concerns about paying for it arose. With this scholarship, a huge burden will be lifted off my parents’ shoulders. My parents have done so much for me, so applying for this scholarship was the least I could do to help them out. I am especially thankful to my dad for giving me the opportunity to apply. In addition to covering my tuition, this scholarship will also allow me to focus more on my studies and friendships and extracurricular activities since I will not need to work as much. One last time, thank you so much for selecting me as a Wings Over America scholarship recipient. I can assure you I will make the absolute most of it.
