Sofia Carrillo

I am incredibly honored and thankful to be a VAW/VRW Merit Scholarship recipient. I will be attending the University of California Davis in the fall of 2025 majoring in Animal Science on the Pre vet track. I also hope to have a double major in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. This scholarship will help to cover a large portion of my tuition, making my goals more attainable by easing any financial stress. My long-term goal is to become an equine veterinarian either specializing in research and education or going into equine sports medicine. In my free time I love to read, create, spend time with friends, spend time at the barn, go to the beach, and paddle board. I own a horse named Solo, and she is the reason I want to become a veterinarian. Following her back surgery in 2024 I became invested in equine sports rehab firsthand and thoroughly enjoyed it. One day I hope to own my own rehab and research hospital and potentially breed and train sport horses. I am super thankful to be a VAW/VRC Merit Scholarship recipient.
